Death

Symbolic

I heard this at a friend's place last year and I was completely blown away by the freshness and the quality of this album! I'm not a big fan of death metal, and Death's first release, considered to be highly representative of the genre, didn't appeal to me very much. However, during the last few albums, the direction has moved from Death metal to a Technical Metal sound, and this album highlights that direction very well. In fact, I don't think Death can be called Death Metal any longer. Chuck Schuldiner's vocals are extremely clear and there are some cool guitar riffs, intricate playing, and moving solos. The interplay between the drumming and guitar is amazing. Not since Megadeth's Rust in Peace have I come across such brilliant guitar/drum complementation that is also highly listenable. The production is excellent. I recommend any fan of Heavy Metal music to check this release out.
