Doug Smith

Deep Heart

The thing that struck me the most when listening to the album is that the guitar almost sings to you. You can almost hear lyrics in the form of the string pluckings. This is an album comprised of acoustic pop/folk music, backed by some excellent keyboard (Ron Satterfiled) and violin (Chris Vitas) work which is melodious and haunting. The drums (Duncan Moore) and percussion (Mike Spiro) are minimalistic and provide a solid support to the Smith's playing, while not detracting from the keyboards/piano and the violin. All the instruments really play off of each other well and the blending of the layered guitar tracks with them is very nicely done. Favourite tracks are Mystic Morning, Nights in White Satin, Highway 26, and The Jig is Up. This is a must get for acoustic guitar fans!
